What to Expect
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Global Supply Manager to assist our development, production, and engineering teams in sourcing and managing expendable packaging materials for both current and future production and service projects. These materials encompass expendable packaging, closed-loop packaging, and semi-reusable packaging for our Automotive, Service Distribution, and Energy divisions. This role will report to our Supply Chain Group Manager while also actively serving as a procurement resource for various Engineering groups within Tesla. The Global Supply Manager will be a vital member of our Supply Chain Organization, aiding in the development, implementation, and management of strategies that ensure Tesla receives optimal supply assurance, pricing, flexibility, quality, and delivery performance. The Global Supply Manager will establish and cultivate strong working relationships with our engineering teams, business stakeholders, and key suppliers to ensure that cost, quality, and delivery targets are met. They will also work diligently to foster positive supplier relationships and reduce the total cost of ownership to maximize Tesla’s advantage. What You’ll Do
- Comprehend the specific business requirements of diverse groups and engineering designs to facilitate the development, sourcing, contracting, and implementation of indirect packaging solutions
- Foster strong stakeholder support and coordination among the Business, Packaging Engineers, and end users
- Pre-qualify suppliers by assessing their financial credibility, capabilities, expertise, and capacity to serve
- Synthesize supplier, industry, and market research for assigned commodities to formulate sourcing strategies
- Lead RFx (RFI, RFQ, and RFP) for sourcing packaging designs and materials, closely collaborating with internal Packaging Engineering Teams
- Define analyze, and clarify bid packages received from suppliers, and present recommendations for awards after conducting a detailed bid analysis, including total cost of ownership assessment
- Lead negotiations related to commercial terms, pricing, General Terms and Conditions (GTCs), Master Service Agreements (MSAs), and Statements of Work (SOWs)
- Analyze historical spending and forecasted spending, as well as savings by project, commodity, and business unit, and identify areas for improvement
- Maintain day-to-day supplier relationships and serve as the primary point of contact for all commercial matters
- Collaborate with other Sourcing Specialists, Sourcing Managers, Category Managers, and Buyers when there is relevant overlap, such as with returnable packaging
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain Management or Packaging, or equivalent. Master’s Degree in Engineering or an MBA is preferred
- 3-5 years of experience in a procurement role, preferably within relevant commodities
- Understanding of contract fundamentals and negotiations
- Experience developing ‘should cost’ estimates, making business case recommendations.
- Excellent MS Excel and other MS Office Suite skills
- Demonstrated ability to identify business process issues and drive process improvement.
- Ability to work independently on multiple tasks and projects with various stakeholders, and guidance of a Team Manager
